Alisha Vasquez at Odyssey Storytelling: In conjunction with the exhibition, Bailey Doogan: Ways of Seeing

Join SFA’s Alisha Vasquez and other storytellers at an upcoming storytelling event!

In conjunction with the upcoming exhibition, Bailey Doogan: Ways of Seeing, The University of Arizona Museum of Art is collaborating with Odyssey Storytelling to host an evening of personal stories inspired by the art and words of the Tucson artist Bailey Doogan.

The theme for the event comes from a quote by Bailey Doogan, “Our bodies are full of stories.”  

More about Bailey Doogan and her work:
From colorful and surrealistic earlier work to the unflinching and hyper-realistic drawings and paintings of the body she created until the end of her life, Doogan deeply explored the exquisite pains and pleasures of living in our bodies, often amidst the pressure and social expectations for how bodies should look, feel, and act. “I deal with the real body,” she said. “Our bodies are diaries of our experience. Whatever happens to us is recorded there: wrinkles, scars, the way we stand. That specificity fascinates me. I think it’s beautiful.” Doogan’s work dealt with many experiences through the lens of the body:  aging, motherhood, illness, objectification, defiance, strength, and even play.
