SFA Disability Cultures Folklife @ 2026 National PFAS Conference

Join SFA and other conference attendees for the 2026 National PFAS Conference in the hidden gem in the desert on June 8-2026. This conference series is uniquely designed to exchange information, provide support to PFAS-affected communities, and facilitate engagement across diverse sectors involved with PFAS to accelerate the protection of health and the environment. 

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of thousands of man-made “forever chemicals” used since the 1950s to make products heat, stain, water, and grease-resistant. They do not break down easily in the environment or the human body, leading to bioaccumulation and potential health risks.

SFA Disability Cultures Folklorist Alisha Vasquez will participate in the 2026 National PFAS Conference’s poster panel session, sharing her yearlong project, Survival & Resistance. With the support of the Southwest Folklife Alliance Disabilities Culture’s partnership with UC Berkeley’s Disabled Ecologies Lab, continued programming and partnership will continue in the southwest.
