DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Smithsonian Folklife Festival and the Tucson FOX\, Tucson Meet Yourself invites you to a FREE concert with artist Rissi Palmer\, as a part of the Smithsonian’s Of The People celebration to commemorate our nation’s 250th anniversary. \n\n\n\nTickets are free but advance registration is required. Reserve tickets at the Fox. \n\n\n\nRissi Palmer\, who describes her musical style as “Southern Soul\,” has received widespread media attention in national publications including Ebony\, Billboard\, People\, Newsweek\, Rolling Stone\, The Wall Street Journal and more. She has performed on the CBS Morning Show\, CNN\, Oprah & Friends\, at the White House\, Lincoln Center\, and the Grand Ole Opry. In 2007\, she released her debut album Rissi Palmer\, charting singles\, “Country Girl\,” “Hold On To Me\,” and “No Air.” Since then\, Rissi has independently released a children’s album\, Best Day Ever and an EP titled The Back Porch Sessions\, and a full length album\, Revival. \n\n\n\nShe received a Grammy nomination as a part of 1 Tribe Collective for the album All One Tribe in 2021.  She is now the host of the Apple Music Country show\, Color Me Country Radio w/ Rissi Palmer and administers the Color Me Country Artist Grant Fund to provide grants for artists of color pursuing careers in Country and Americana Music. \n\n\n\nThis event is presented by the Fox Tucson Theatre in partnership with Tucson Meet Yourself\, a program of Southwest Folklife Alliance. \n\n\n\nThis event is co-presented with the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. As one of about 40 festivals chosen for the Smithsonian’s “Of the People” initiative marking America’s 250th anniversary\, TMY is co-presenting the Rissi Palmer concert at the Fox as a lead up to this year’s festival weekend\, on October 16-18\, 2026.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt received funding from the Smithsonian’s “Our Shared Future: 250\,” a Smithsonian-wide initiative supported by private philanthropy and created to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary and advance the Smithsonian vision for the next 250 years.

SUMMARY:Tucson Meet Yourself
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 1974 by folklorist Jim Griffith and his wife\, Loma Griffith\, Tucson Meet Yourself is an annual celebration of the living traditional arts of Southern Arizona’s and Northern Mexico’s diverse ethnic and folk communities. The free\, three-day event hosts over 100\,000 people every year and features hundreds of artisans\, home cooks\, dancers\, musicians and special exhibits that celebrate and honor beauty in all its diverse\, informal\, and everyday forms. \n\n\n\nExperience live music and dance from over 40 acts on two main stages and the Folklife Here Pavilion. Participate in workshops and learn about common practices across many traditions.  \n\n\n\nCelebrate traditional cooks and heritage holders\, along with legacy cultural organizations\, and a few food trucks!  \n\n\n\nJoin us for demonstrations\, conversations\, and informal performances on how folklife helps us create belonging\, identity\, and community. \n\n\n\nMeet cooks\, mixologists\, and cultural workers to learn about how food and culture go hand in hand\, er\, hand to mouth in our Culture Kitchen! \n\n\n\nWander among TMY folk artists sharing traditional and contemporary artforms celebrating culture and continuity and participate in hands-on activities and demos! \n\n\n\nEvent is free and open to the public.
